Your job opportunities will be good! Employment for
medical transcriptionists and medical coders is projected to grow faster
than average for all occupations through 2014.
 Earnings*
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, medical
transcriptionists had median hourly earnings
of $13.64 in May 2004. Your compensation for
medical transcription may vary. Sometimes you are
paid based on the number of hours you work or on
the number of lines you transcribe.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, medical
coders had median hourly earnings of $12.50 in
May 2004. The majority of medical coders are
hourly employees at a physicians’ office.
