 Employment Opportunities
You could find work in the following settings:
- retail pharmacies
- mail-order pharmacies
- general medical and surgical hospitals
- nursing homes
- assisted-living facilities
 Job Outlook*
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics,
employment of pharmacy technicians is expected
to grow 21 - 35% through 2012 due to the
increased pharmaceutical needs of a larger aging
population, and to the greater use of medication.
The increased number of middle-aged and elderly
people - who, on average, use more prescription
drugs than younger people - will spur demand for
technicians in all practice settings.
 Earnings*
According to the U.S. Department of Labor,
pharmacy technicians had median hourly earnings
of $11.62 in May 2004. Shift differentials for
working evenings or weekends can also increase
earnings.
* Information based on the “Occupational Outlook Handbook,
2005-06 Edition,” a publication of the U.S. Department of
Labor. Individual student earnings vary based on experience and
location.
